The Family Business Institute was incorporated in 1995 by a father and son-in-law team: Tom Campbell and Wayne Rivers. Tom worked in his own family radio business for 24 years with his father, mother, and two brothers before co-founding the Family Business Institute while Wayne had done consulting work with family business ventures for almost a decade.

The company is solely owned by family business executive coach Wayne Rivers and is based in Raleigh, North Carolina, and the Institute has clients throughout the United States.

The mix of the Family Business Institute’s clients is roughly 70% family businesses and 30% closely held companies. Because of the diversity in scope of these types of clients and the services necessary to deliver successful engagements, FBI has developed outstanding internal talent as well as strategic alliances with experts in law and financial planning.
